Who we are
Compass Grad is a community for graduate students across the DMV who want to build meaningful friendships, find support, and explore what it means to live a purposeful, God-centered life in the midst of the grind of graduate school.
We welcome graduate students of all religious and spiritual backgrounds—whether you’re a committed Christian, part of another faith tradition, unsure what you believe, or simply curious about Christianity. Wherever you are on your journey, there’s a place for you here.
Compass Gatherings
Our weekly Bible studies where graduate students come together to slow down, connect, and explore the Bible in community.
We’ll share a meal, and some weeks dive into Scripture and have meaningful conversations about faith and life; other weeks, we’ll play games, hang out, or just enjoy good food and good company.
Book Club:The Road to Character
Over three weeks, we’ll discuss David Brooks’s New York Times best-selling book, The Road to Character, share perspectives, and have open conversations about vocation, personal growth, humility, and what it means to become the people we want to be. No prior reading or special knowledge is required to join the conversation—just bring your curiosity and a willingness to reflect.
Our three weeks and the questions we’ll be asking:
10/18: Chapters 1 & 2 - “What if my résumé isn't enough?”
10/25: Chapters 3 & 8 - “Can I actually change?”
11/1: Chapters 9 & 10 - “What if I stopped pretending?”
Come having done the reading, but, if you haven’t, feel free to drop by anyway for good discussion! All grad students welcome! We’ll be meeting around the Clarendon area of Arlington, starting with East West Café near the metro station. Check the sign-ups for more info!
